سمكة الأسد من أغرب الكائنات البحرية..فهي تتميز بجمال ساحر’ و لكنها قاتلة. بدأ هذا النوع من الأسماك يظهر بمعدلات ثثير القلق أمام سواحل فلوريدا الأمريكية’ و يقول الخبراء أن هذه السمكة ذات الألوان المتناسقة الجميلة. هي في حقيقة الأمر وحش رهيب’ يمكن أن يدمر نظاما بيئيا متكاملا’ فهي تتغذى على الأنواع الأصلية من الكائنات البحرية الموجودة في المنطقة’ كما تقوم باٍتلاف المزارع السمكية والمصائد و نشر نوع من الطفيليات تصيب الأسماك الأخرى بأمراض عديدة.
السبب في ذلك أن هذه المنطقة ليست موطنها الأصلي’ لكنها جاءت من المحيط الهادئ و البحر الأحمر عن طريق اصحاب احواض السمك الذين يأتون بأنواع دخيلة من مناطق مختلفة من العالم’ و يقومون بتربيتها و بيعها لهواة اقتناء الأسماك النادرة.
